When Andrew was 10 months old, his family learned that he had life threatening allergies to milk, peanuts, and tree nuts.  He was so allergic, that he could not even be in the same room with the allergens.  Just a very small crumb containing one of these foods could send him into anaphylactic shock.  This, of course, changed his family’s life drastically.

After doing some research, Andrew’s family discovered that there was a doctor near Michigan who was taking patients to go through a new treatment that desensitizes the body to an allergen by exposing it to small doses, building up to a large maintenance dose over time.  Traveling to Michigan every other week not only is necessary, but potentially the cure to Andrew’s life-threatening allergies.  The family could be taking these trips for years until he’s finally cured!

IACKids is supporting Andrew’s family by paying for the gas needed to get to and from Michigan, as well as paying for their hotel stays.  “Every time we fill up our tank, we think about the people that donate to IACK who helped us pay for the gas.  Whenever we check in to our hotel, we think about how fortunate we are to be able to be there” said Andrew’s mom.  “As we continue this journey, we just want everyone at IACKids and all of our friends and family who have helped to make this possible for us, to know that we thank you all from the very bottom of our hearts.  Without your help and generosity, and that of so many others, we wouldn’t be able to have helped our son the way we are now.
