-Written by Becky Osborn (Patrick’s Mom)

Our son Patrick was diagnosed with a rare epilepsy at just 8 weeks of age.  We spent an initial 8-10 weeks at Golisano Children’s hospital and then many numerous hospitalizations over the next year and a half.  When you have a medically fragile child, the last thing you want to think about is the financial piece that goes along with a long term hospitalization.  I took a 7 month unpaid leave from my job as a nurse practitioner to be with Patrick. This left my husband as the sole provider for our family for quite some time. I also had my health insurance coverage that I carried for myself and both our children cut at the worst possible time. There were also a number of medications that weren’t covered for our son.  IACKids came into our lives when we were trying our best to just get through each day and be at our son’s bedside.  IACKids’ caring and financial support came at the most difficult time and really helped to reduce the stress of our situation.

Our sweet boy passed away in March of 2014 after a very courageous battle with his rare, devastating epilepsy.    Once again and without even asking IACKids was right there and helped with the funeral expenses.  This was a time when we could just put aside the financial piece and focus on the initial grieving and our family.  They took care of everything for us!

These guys are amazing.  We don’t know where we would be without them.  They are doing really great things for working class families that would otherwise fall through the cracks.

IACKids has also made a great impression on our family and friends.  Patrick was loved by so many and we find joy in that our family and friends are able to donate in his memory.

We are forever grateful for their support,

Rob and Becky Osborn
